ABOUT THE 52 WEEK BUDGET DIARY

To enable you to properly review your Grocery Budget and to validate that you're shopping at the supermarkets that are not only conveniently located, but more importantly, offering the best value for your household budget, we've created a new ancillary Page.

The worksheet is called a 52 Week Budget Diary and Supermarket Competitive Savings Table.  It all sounds like a mouthful, but essentially, here's what this worksheet does:

1. It allows you to record the dates of your major weekly grocery shopping days;

2. Which primary and secondary supermarkets you went to, on that particular day (drop down arrow for your convenience);

3. What your projected Budget Target was, from your Shopping List, on that particular day;

4. Most importantly, what your Grand Total and Actual spend was for that day at your preferred primary and secondary supermarkets and chemists.

In regard to the 52 week Budget Diary, you must enter the date on each entry.  next, click on the names of the primary and secondary supermarkets you bought your groceries from.  Then click on the name of the chemist you bought your pharmaceuticals from.

Type in the Grand Total, from the Weekly Grocery Budget Result Table (immediately above) and the Actual amount you spent at the primary supermarket, from the receipt and repeat the process for your secondary supermarket and chemist (if applicable).  The 52 Week Grocery Budget Diary will then tell you how much you've saved.

When you scroll down to the bottom of the Supermarket Competitive Savings Table you will be able to see which two supermarkets are saving you the most amount of money, on average.  You will also be able to see how much you have saved, year to date.  You will find two weekly Pie Charts, one at the top detailing the shops you're spending your money at and the amount, and one at the bottom of the page showing you how much you spent, for that week per category.

NB: On average, this process takes our family no more than five minutes to complete.  However, we do recommend that you enter in your projected Grand Totals and actual totals (from supermarket and pharmaceutical receipts) prior to updating the Grocery Budget.  This way, your comparisons will be more accurate.
